Official slain in Phangnga

A deputy chairman of the Tai Muang tambon administrative organisation was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Phangnga province on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The incident took place on the Ban Na Tai-Ban Pi Lai road in tambon Koke Kloy of Takua Thong district, said Pol Lt Nakorn Tangruamsap.
The victim was identified as Suthon Soithong, 42, a resident of tambon Tai Muang. When police arrived at the scene at 2.15pm, witnesses told them the victim had already been taken to Takua Thoong hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to the witnesses, the victim was walking toward his car parked on the road when a gunman riding pillion on a motorcycle fired on him with a 9mm calibre handgun. The assailants then fled.
Suthon took seven bullets in the head and torso and was taken to the hospital by nearby villagers. He was later pronounced dead.
Police were investigating.
