Buriram United complete Cup double

Jerkovic scores twice as defending champions hammer Ratchaburi FC

Buriram United retained the League Cup title after beating Ratchaburi FC 4-1 in the final at Thammasat stadium yesterday.

Buriram United players celebrate their League Cup victory at Thammasat stadium last night.

It was the Thunder Castle's second trophy of the year after winning the FA Cup last week. Retaining both titles was a tonic for Buriram, who lost their Thai Premier League crown with a fourth-placed finish.

Buriram United were heavy favourites because Ratchaburi could not use eight players who are currently on loan from the champions.

With the absence of the group, Ratchaburi, who will play in the TPL next season after being crowned League One champions, had only 11 players for yesterday's game.

It was one-way traffic in the opening stages but Buriram squandered several chances with goalkeeper Pathomporn Thongkhot forced to make a number of good saves.

Buriram’s goal-scoring hero Goran Jerkovic, right.

The first goal inevitably came in the 35th minute when a poor clearance allowed defender Ekwalla Herman to give Buriram the lead.

In-form striker Goran Jerkovic then slotted the ball home from a few yards as Buriram were 2-0 in front at half-time.

Osmar Barba made it 3-0 after 63 minutes but Buriram forward Adisak Kraisorn sent the ball into his own net moments later.

Jerkovic completed the rout late on. He also scored twice in last week's 2-1 win over Army United in the FA Cup final.

Buriram received five million baht in prize money and Ratchaburi got one million baht.
