Continuing a fine tradition

Every weekend evening from Dec 2 until the end of April, the Fine Arts Department's Office of Performing Arts will present a series of Sangkheet Sala shows which will feature traditional performing arts including dance, drama and music.

Open to the general public for the nominal admission fee of 20 baht, these shows will be held from 5pm to 7pm in the area in front of Bangkok's National Museum.

Since 1948, the Fine Arts Department has hosted public entertainment at this location.

Previous shows have been devoted to various types of traditional and courtly dramas (lakhon nok, lakhon nai, lakhon phanthang, lakhon sepha, lakhon chatri and lakhon duekdamban), puppetry, khon (masked dance), vernacular stage performances like lamtat, plaeng e-saew and likay, and music played by different sort of traditional ensembles (pipat maikhaeng, mahori, khruangsai pi chawa, pipat mon, angkaloongand pipat chawa) and more international music by lukthung groups, big bands, marching and other bands.

Dec 8: International music and various Thai performing artsDec 9: Thai puppetry

Dec 15: Traditional Thai music

Dec 23: Various types of traditional Thai dance.
