Govt chief whip: Censure still on

The censure motion debate against the government scheduled for Nov 25-26 will not be affected although a question has been raised over opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva's qualifications as an MP, government chief whip Udomdet Rattanasathien said on Tuesday.

Mr Udomdet, a Pheu Thai MP for Nonthaburi, said that his discussions with other opposition whips confirmed the censure debate would go ahead as planned, with the voting on Nov 27.

He expected a general debate in the Senate on the government's performance would be on Nov 27-28, after the censure debate.

Mr Udomdet said the questions over Mr Abhisit's qualifications would not affect the no-confidence debate because a legal interpretation of this matter would take time.  Mr Abhisit was still qualified as an MP, he added.

The government chief whip said he was not concerned over the support vote for the four ministers after the grilling session.  It was certain to be more than 250 or one half of the full number of MPs in the House of Representatives.
