The Mini brand has announced a new model dubbed Paceman, a compact high-end speedster which the company claims drives like a go-kart.

Design-wise, the Mini Paceman blends dynamic and elegant lines, but the real surprise lies at the back, with the lights tilted in an unusual way -- horizontally, a first for a Mini.
Inside, the model sports racing seats as standard for the driver and front passenger, and the separated back seats are quite roomy. The trunk has a capacity of 330l, which can be upped to 1080l by folding down the back seats.
The speedier Mini Cooper S Paceman version boasts 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.5 seconds using the manual gearbox and 7.8s with an automatic gearbox, and a top speed of 217km/h, for an average fuel consumption of 6.1l/100km and CO2 emissions of 143g/km.
Thanks to its racing suspension and lowered chassis, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and electromecanical assisted steering (features that all come as standard), the Mini Paceman offers a driving experience that compares with that of a go-kart.
The model also includes various safety features, such as airbags at the front and sides and the ISOFIX system to secure child seats at the back.
Buyers can choose between the gas and diesel engines, and the Paceman will launch in Europe in spring 2013, with a starting price set at €24,850.
The Mini Paceman has previously appeared as a concept car at various motor shows, including the Paris Motor Show, held earlier this year in the French capital.
