Bangkok governor election on Feb 17

The election to decide the next governor of Bangkok has been tentatively set for Feb 17, 2013, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is budgeting 165 million baht to organise it.

Bangkok city clerk Ninnart Chalitanon said on Friday the term of current governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra will end on Jan 10, 2013. The law stipulated that the election of a new governor must be held within 45 days.

Based on previous elections and adjusted to current costs, the BMA estimates the cost of election at 165 million baht.

The city has instructed all its employees to remain impartial in performing their duties to ensure no problems in the future.
