Park officials have found remains believed to be of two pilots who died after their plane crashed in Khao Yai National Park five years ago.
The skeletons were buried under layers of leaves at the crash site. Boots, a necklace, wallets and wristwatches were also recovered and brought to the Ban Pong Kon Sao Nature Learning Centre in Kaeng Khoi district in Saraburi, said Sombat Pimprasit, an official at the centre.
A tourist trekking in the national park came across the crash site by accident this week, took a photograph of the wreckage and gave it to wildlife officials.
Mr Sombat led a search team to the crash site of the Cessna 172P aircraft that went missing on Aug 9, 2007 along with its two occupants: Phakhin Thaithanom, a pilot trainer from Bangkok Aviation Centre Co, and trainee Ranop Lueangwilawan. They were flying from Pak Chong district in Nakhon Ratchasima to Don Mueang airport in Bangkok on that day.
Originally, the search was planned for next week but the team decided to move it up due to concern about a pending storm.
Wannee Leaungwilawan, Ranop's mother, told reporters that she was happy that her son would finally get to come home.
She said she was planning to hold a religious ceremony for the remains once their identification has been confirmed by DNA testing.
