Inmate dies as 3 try to escape

PATHUM THANI - Three inmates attempted to escape from Sam Khok prison by climbing over a wall. Two of them were captured while another was electrocuted, police said on Sunday morning.

Pol Col Prawit Muangnuan, superintendent of Sam Khok police, said the inmate who was electrocuted while climbing over the wall was Sompan Saengsee. He was serving time for possession of firearms.

The two inmates who were captured were Decha Chimpli and Suriya Chimpli.

Decha was caught during the escape attempt while Suriya was missing for some hours before being recaptured.

Department of Corrections deputy director general Somsak Rungsiyopas said Suriya was found hidden in the bushes about one kilometre from the prison facility.

Decha and Suriya will face attempted escape charges, Mr Somsak added.
