SET unfazed by Seh Ai rally

The planned anti-government rally on Saturday is just a short-term negative factor and will have only a minimal impact on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).

SET president Charumporn Chotikasatien said on Tuesday that investors in the Thai capital market were not worried about it and had not asked about any possible political violence that might arise from the rally.

The SET president was referring to the planned anti-government protest at the Royal Plaza on Saturday by the Pitak Siam group, led by Gen Boonlert Kaewprasit, alias Seh Ai.

An official visit to Thailand by the US President Barack Obama on Sunday, together with the visit Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao on Wednesday are good signs, showing that the two super powers give more importance to the country, he said.

These visits would help encourage foreign investors who have never placed any investment in Thailand to consider doing so, because the official visit by the two leaders had significantly created a good investment climate in the country, he added.
