Senate debate now Nov 28

The cabinet has agreed to a proposal for the Senate to hold a general debate on the government's performance on Nov 28, Prime Minister's Office Minister Varathep Rattanakorn said.

The proposal was made by government whips.

Mr Varathep said the Senate wanted the debate to be held on Nov 23-24 but during that period the government would be too busy receiving leaders of many countries visiting Thailand.

So the cabinet agreed that Nov 28 would better suit the debate and the Senate would be informed of the decision, he added.

Senate speaker Nikom Wairatpanich, meanwhile, said he accepted the cabinet resolution although some senators might object to it.

He expected the Senate's general debate to be held from noon until midnight on Nov 28 after the House of Representatives voted on a no-confidence debate in the morning.
