Sam Mendes, the director of Skyfall, the most lucrative film in the Bond saga, is reportedly working on the plot for the follow-up, despite previous reports to the contrary.

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, the scriptwriting duo behind the last five chapters of the spy saga (from The World is Not Enough to Skyfall) announced at Qatar's Doha-Tribeca festival that they were out of the picture for the next film, passing the torch to third wheel John Logan (who co-authored the plot to Skyfall), and revealed in the process that Sam Mendes is still on board.

"I know that John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with a plot for another one, which takes the pressure off because these films take up a lot of time," says a press release by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

No one knows yet if Mendes will be back behind the camera to direct Daniel Craig or if he'll only be involved in the scriptwriting.

Skyfall's international earnings total nearly $670M, making it the highest-grossing film (in non-adjusted figures) of the longstanding franchise.
