LONDON - Chelsea announced on Wednesday they have parted company with manager Roberto Di Matteo.

In a statement, the Premier League club said: "the team's recent performances and results have not been good enough."
"The owner and the Board felt that a change was necessary now to keep the club moving in the right direction as we head into a vitally important part of the season," the statement read.
Di Matteo took over from Andre Villas Boas in March and led Chelsea to Champions League victory two months later, before being given a two-year contract in June.
But their 3-0 defeat by Juventus on Tuesday night means they are in danger of becoming the first title holders to fail to qualify for the knockout stages of this season's competition.
And a run of poor performances has seen them drop from first to third in the Premier League in recent weeks.
"Our aim is to remain as competitive as possible and challenge strongly on all fronts," the statement continued.
"The club will be making an announcement shortly regarding a new first team manager."
