Children assaulted on 'ghost train'

Parents of several young children have complained to police that their offspring were physically and sexually assaulted while riding the ghost train at a fair in Ranong province.

The reported assaults occurred at the annual Loy Krathong festival in Ranong's Muang district, according to a report in Khao Sod.

A 13-year-old boy said that he was punched in the face by one of the ride employees. The boy's father said that his son came out of the ride with a bruise on his face and a bleeding nose.

The boy identified 39-year-old Somjet Boonnoi, one of the ride employees, as his alleged attacker, because he was also the ticket seller and did not wear a mask like other employees.

Two young girls, aged 11 and 13, were also allegedly molested inside the dark ride. They said they were groped and kissed by one of the four employees who were dressed up as ghosts to scare the riders.

The parents said there were many more victims, mostly young children, who were afraid to come forward.

Initially, the boy's parents intended to press charges, but later decided to settle after the ride's owner paid 4,000 baht in compensation for what happened.

However, the girls' parents will pursue legal action, which will require further investigation.
