Peter Molyneux, designer of seminal 1989 god-game Populous, has taken to Kickstarter with a proposal for Godus, a PC, iOS and Android game which purports to blend of his many earlier ideas into one compelling title.

"At the core of Populous there was some exciting stuff. What I would love to do is go back to those glory days and re-create the entire god-game genre," said Molyneux in the Godus pitch video. "I just want to deliver the glory of the old days in the new format of today's world."
Molyneux's endearing enthusiasm has given him a reputation for thinking big, sometimes too big -- hence the popularity of parody Twitter account @PeterMolydeux, filled with fantastical high-concept game ideas -- and that reputation crystalized in iOS and Android cube-clicker Curiosity, as demand instantly outstripped humble projections for the November 6 app, bringing the game to its knees.
But many fans of Molyneux's legacy have not been dissuaded by recent history, remembering the designer's role in designing not only Populous but also Powermonger, Syndicate, Theme Park, Dungeon Keeper, Black & White and the Fable series.
That appreciation materialized in a £100,000 ($160,000) combined commitment towards Godus's relatively modest £450,000 ($720,000) requirement within the project's first two days of fundraising; Molyneux's new studio 22cans has until December 21 to persuade the public to back Godus to completion.
