5 hurt in Samut Prakan pile-up

Five people were hurt on Monday when seven vehicles collided on an expressway in Bang Bo district of Samut Prakarn province.

Police rushed to the site after reports of the accident. A total of seven vans and pickup trucks were involved in the crash on the Bang Na-Bang Prakong elevated tollway.

All of the injured are navy officers included Rr Adm Pattawee Srisomwong, the director of the Navy Dental Centre, Capt Sommai Kijchela, Capt Pisit Charoenying, Cmdr Anek Panlaem and Cmdr Channarn Phuwaraksa, Pol Lt Col Thitipong Piwatwutthikul, an officer of the Burapha Withi Expressway police station, said.

They suffered concussions and have been taken to Ruamjaipracharak hospital, he added.

From initial inquiries, the officers were on their way back from Sattahip naval base in Chon Buri province in two vans.

The pile up occurred after a pickup reportedly rear-ended another van.

The police will question all drivers again to see who was responsible for the crash.
