The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) objects to the performance on the grounds that it promotes "hedonism" and because of the star's gay marriage, which it believes could have a negative impact on young Malaysians.
"We will use the approach of submitting a memorandum [to the government] to protest against the concert," PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi told The Malaysian Times.
"This is one of the measures we intend to check social ills in the country.
"Whatever it takes, we will not let up on our dakwah [preaching of Islam] work and will continually remind all Muslims, particularly youths, not to get involved in matters that can drag them into vice."
The concert is scheduled to take place at the Arena of Stars in Genting Hills on Saturday evening. John, who dedicated his Beijing concert to Chinese dissident Ai Weiwei yesterday, will play in Manila on Dec 8 and in Bangkok on Dec 13.
