4th Army chief meets teachers

Fourth Army commander Lt Gen Udomchai Thamsarorat has promised to review the security arrangements for frightened teachers after the Confederation of Teachers of Southern Border Provinces went on strike, closing all 332 state-run schools in Pattani in a demand for improved safety measures.
Teachers and administrators of schools in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla provinces were invited to attend a meeting on Tuesday at the 4th Army's forward headquarters at Sirindhorn Camp in Pattani's Yarang district.
At the meeting, they were asked to for their opinions about security measures.
The teachers' strike followed the murder of Nanthana Kaewchan, 51, the director of Ban Tha Kam Sam School in Nong Chik district, who was shot dead by militants on Nov 22.
Earlier this month, on Nov 9, two teachers of Ban Ton Makham School in Yarang district of Pattani, were also wounded by gunmen.
Lt Gen Udomchai told the teachers that plans for their security would be adjusted, particularly in high-risk areas.
