Drug couriers killed in border clash

Two smuigglers were killed in a clash between drug traffickers and soldiers in Mae Hong Son province on Thursday morning, reports said.

The clash took place about 10am in a mountainous area between Ban Huay Sua Thao and Ban Huay Pu Kaeng in tambon Pha Bong of Mae Hong Son's Muang district.

Two smugglers were  killed and three arrested.

The soldiers from the 17th Infantry Regiment cleared the area afterwards and seized two black backpacks from the bodies containing a total of 50,000 methamphetamine pills.

The soldiers sustained no casualties, Col Banwat Promchan, commander of the 17the Infantry Regiment, said.
