Troubled couple commit suicide

An estranged Thai-Malaysian couple committed suicide by drowning themselves in Songkhla province, leaving two small children orphaned.

Police on Saturday found the bodies of a man and a woman floating, with the man's arms around the woman's waist, in a pond in tambon Samnak Kham in Sadao district, Thai Rath reported.

Police estimated that they had been dead for about two days. They were later identified as Son Iw Sin, 46, a Malaysian man and his Thai wife, Jarinya Saeyang, 33.

According to one of their friends, both lived in a townhouse just 70 metres from where their bodies were found, and they had two children, aged 6 and 3 years old.

Apparently, the Malaysian man also had another family in Malaysia and rarely came to see his Thai family. They often got into arguments with each other.

The friend told the investigators that one time Ms Jarinya asked for her children to be taken care of because she was planning to commit suicide with her husband.

On Wednesday, Loy Kratong night, they went out together and were not seen again until tyheir bodies were found.

Police have a theory that the two were unable to work out their problems and decided to take an easy way out.
