Red-shirt co-leader Arisman Pongruangrong was sentenced to one year imprisonment by a the Criminal Court judge on Monday, with no suspension, in a judgement on a defamation case brought against him by Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Arisman was sued for defamation accusing the opposition leader as ordering the killing of people in his speech on Oct 11 and Oct 17, 2009. He must advertise the apology in two newspapers for seven days.
His lawyer filed an application for bail, offering a 100,000 baht guarrantee, saying he would take the ruling to the Appeals Court.
The court has yet to give a decision on bail.
