BANGKOK - A 17 year-old girl was killed when she fell off a bike and was run over by a truck during a "stunt" performed by a motorcycle gang.
About 2am on Tuesday police received reports that a girl was killed in an accident on Kanchanapisek Rd in Taling Chan district.
Police found the driver of a 10-wheel truck waiting at the scene.
Paphon Patchimbutr, 41, contacted the police after he ran over the girl.
The truck driver told police that he saw about 100 motorcycles racing around on the street before the accident.
He said he was driving at about 60 kph at the time.
“I was about to slow down and park the truck it because it was too dangerous to drive,” Paphon said. “There were too many of them.”
"They were doing tricks and stunts in the middle of the road and before I could park my truck a girl fell off a motorcycle which was right in front of me," he told police.
He said he tried to stop his truck but it all happened too quickly and there was not enough time for him to prevent the accident.
Police saw 10-metre long tire marks on the road caused by the truck where the accident occurred, which indicated that truck had driver tried to stop his vehicle abruptly.
The body of the teenager, whose name was withheld, was sent to Siriraj hospital for post mortem examination.
Police said they would bring in members of the motorcycle gang, who fled after the accident, for questioning.
