Thein Sein cancels Australia visit

Myanmar president Thein Sein has cancelled a trip to Australia next week.

The reformist president was scheduled to visit Canberra and Sydney next Monday and Tuesday.

“The Australian government was advised late yesterday that the president would be postponing his visit to Australia owing to domestic commitments,” a spokesman for Prime Minister Julia Gillard told Sky News Australia on Thursday.

“We very much look forward to welcoming the president to Australia at a mutually convenient time in 2013.”
