PHETCHABUN – A 51-year-old woman who explained she was hungry was caught red-handed eating a raw, bleeding chicken she had just stolen and then killed, police said on Friday.
The woman, Jandee Sungtong, confessed that she had been sneaking out at night regularly to steal and eat them raw and still bloody because she was hungry and had no money.
Several people in the village had reported to police that their chickens had been stolen. More than 100 were reported missing in the village, police said.
One couple, Prasert Janwai and Varunee Janwai, said, they heard had chickens shrieking for many nights and over 20 chickens had disappeared from their coop.
So last night they hid and waited for the chicken thief. Jandee suddenly appeared. They saw the woman catch one of the birds, wring its neck and immediately begin to feed on it.
Some villagers said they believed Jandee was a folklore ghoul known as "Porb".
