BEIJING: A single gravestone on a large mound of earth is holding up a luxury housing project in a suburb of Taiyuan city in northern China, state media said on Friday.

The "nail grave" was left when developers dug foundations for apartment blocks around the tomb after agreeing on compensation with the owners of other graves in a cemetery that was moved to make way for the project.
The developer is now willing to pay one million yuan (4.9 million baht) to move it, but the grave owner's family do not judge the compensation sufficient.
China News Service and other media showed photographs of the grave flanked by partially built tower blocks more than 20 stories high.
The multi-block construction project was scheduled for completion in April of this year, the agency said.
Internet users in China have celebrated the stands of owners of "nail houses" who resisted developers or held out for higher compensation.
