We may not have any snow, but we do have snowy make-up to play with

Dashing through the snow

The magic of Christmas doesn't seem complete somehow unless one can cavort around under a light dusting of sparkly snowflakes. But living, as we do, in a tropical climate, that dream isn't very likely to come true. Still, you could always decorate your face with some snow-inspired make-up. Before joining any seasonal festivities, dab a little frost-white glitter on your face to make it look fetchingly snow-kissed.

The look from Bobbi Brown Brighten, Sparkle & Glow collection.

There are many ways to interpret the snow-inspired look. You can make it all fun and youthful by going for the red lips, flawless complexion and doe-like eyes of Snow White, or you can go for the glamorous, haughty presence of an Ice Queen.

The Snow White look is actually very simple, and can be achieved with red lipstick, a good foundation and an eyeliner. The Ice Queen look is a bit trickier, but not if you have the right tools.

Sparkly eye shadow doesn't tend to last very long, due to the presence of those large glitter particles; nor does it adhere very well to the skin. This is why you need to first apply either foundation or a primer, which will make it stick for a longer period. Use pale pearly or shimmery eyeshadows and line the eyes with silver, grey or black to add depth and define the eyes.

The skin of the face should be light and flawless (bronzers and tanned shades might have to wait). Use the foundation that works best for you and set it with a light-coloured translucent powder. Finish it off with some brightener to add that snowy effect. The cheeks shouldn't be too colourful (they don't really get all that flushed even in cold weather). Use a shimmery pale pink or pale peach blush to brush lightly on the "apples" of the cheeks. Pale cheek colours give the face some warmth without creating too much of a contrast with the rest of your look.

Complete the look with sparkly lip gloss. Although dry, wintry weather can make lips chapped, there's no need for you to imitate that particular feature! So keep them coloured and glossy.

The Snow White look goes well with colourful clothes as well as subdued colours, while the Ice Queen look is best complemented with "winter" hues like black, grey, white and brown.

Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener instantly reduces the appearance of undereye circles and evens out skin for a refreshed and flawless look.

Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder comes in six pastel shades to instantly brighten the face with a shimmery lightweight veil.

MACPressed Pigment in Angelic is a highly pearlised, creamy eyeshadow in off-white that glistens like pure snowflakes.

Shiseido Camellia Compact features shimmering face powder in vividly rich rose, spring petal pink and icy cool platinum; mix and match cheek colours to make them as intense or as light as you wish.
