Trafficked thai women brought home

Five Thai women arrived home yesterday after being rescued from forced prostitution in Bahrain last week.

IN SAFE HANDS: Five Thai women return home after being rescued from a brothel in Bahrain. A total of 21 Thais were recently rescued from forced prostitution in a coordinated effort by Bahraini authorities and the Thai embassy in Bahrain.

The five were welcomed by Pol Lt Col Chusak Apaipak of the anti-human trafficking division and Pavena Hongsakula, president of Pavena Foundation for Children and Women.

They were among 21 Thai women who were lured into the flesh trade in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, and recently rescued after the mother of a 23 year old identified only as Ms A sought help from the foundation.

Ms A telephoned her mother and told her that there were several more Thai women being detained in Arabia Hotel and Exhibition Plaza.

Ms A was one of the rescued women but it was not clear if she was among those who returned to Thailand yesterday.

The foundation contacted the Thai embassy in Bahrain to coordinate with local police in rescuing the victims.

Of the 21 victims, 12 were rescued from the Arabia Hotel and the rest from Exhibition Plaza.

Two people were arrested on human trafficking charges.
