Police ready for UDD rally

BANGKOK - Police are ready to maintain law and order during tomorrow's rally by the red shirts of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said Pol Maj Gen Parinya Chansuriya, deputy metropolitan police chief.

The rally, to be led by Pol Lt Col Waipot Arpornrat, Payap Panket and Darunee Kritboonyalai, is to call for the government to proceed with the vote in the third reading of the constitution amendment bill.

Pol Maj Gen Parinya said the red shirts would gather at the Royal Plaza tomorrow morning before marching past parliament, Government House, Democracy Monument, the Supreme Court near Sanam Luang and King Rama VI monument by Lumpini Park, using the Charoen Krung-Rama IV Road-Hua Lamphong-Lumpini Park route.

Poice patrols and traffic police would facilitate the march, which was likely to draw a small number of participants, the officer said.
