Lop Buri is celebrating the Sambuddha Jayanthi and its Tham Boon Muang Lop Buri ceremony tomorrow and next week.

Ajarn Phuthorn Bhumadhon will hold a seminar titled "Evidence of Buddha's Dhamma Principle Found in Lop Buri" at Rajabhat Institute Thep Satree's Science Centre at 8.30am. Historian Anake Nawigamune and Nathat Phoodaeng will take the participants to tour Wat Phra Sri Mahathat and Wat Khao Phra Ngam.
A merit-making ceremony will be held on Dec 18 at Narai Palace and Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat. First performed in 1999, the Tham Boon Muang Lop Buri ceremony starts with paying respect to the gods and town guardians at 6.30am, followed by a food offering to the monks at 7am at the palace. Students will spend the whole day drawing the Buddha's biography on an 86m cloth which will later wrap around the stupa in the temple. A talk about the Buddha's enlightenment takes place at 5pm at the temple.
