1 killed, 6 hurt in Narathiwat attack

A civilian was killed and six others seriously injured in a shooting at a tea shop in Narathiwat’s Rangae district on Tuesday morning, reports said.

The attack occurred in Ban Damabuwoh in Moo 1, tambon Tanyonglimor of Rangae early this morning. Gunmen on a passing pickup truck sprayed bullets from AK 47 assault rifles at villagers drinking tea, and then fled.

The six wounded men were taken to Rangae hospital.

Police blamed separatist militants.

More than 5,000 people have been killed and over 9,000 hurt in more than 11,000 incidents, or about 3.5 a day, in the three southernmost provinces and the four districts of Songkhla since the violence erupted afresh in January 2004, according to Deep South Watch.
