CHON BURI -- A German has been apprehended for running a Thai driving licence scam on a Swiss man.
On Wednesday, Daniel Wetzer, 48, from Switzerland, told Pattaya police that Arthur Wilhelm Grudda, 38, a German national, had promised to get him a Thai driving licence, without having to take the exam, in exchange for 15,000 baht.
Mr Wetzer said the German claimed that he had a connection in the Transport Ministry who would arrange it . However, he got suspicious and decided to inform the authority.
Mr Grudda was eventually caught at a restaurant in a police sting operation. He has been charged with fraud.
Police said he admitted running the scam on other foreigners.
Reports and photographs on the web show the fake driver's licences bear little resemblance to current Thai licences.
