Abhisit, Suthep arrive at DSI

Former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his former deputy Suthep Thaugsuban arrived at the Department of Special Investigation early this afternoon to hear the charges against them.

They were accompanied by Democrat Party chief adviser Chuan Leekpai, and other senior party members including Thavorn Senneam and Apirak Kosayodhin. On hand to receive them was DSI chief Tarit Pengdit.

They arrived there about 1pm. There was tight police security.

In front of the DSI office, a number of red-shirts who said they were relatives of those killed in the 2010 violence hurled abuse at Mr Abhisit and Mr Suthep.

The two were to be informed of murder charges laid against them in connection with the death of a taxi driver from Yasothon who the Criminal Court ruled was hit by bullets fired by soldiers taking part in a military crackdown on UDD protesters.

After hearing the charges, they were to undergo an interrogation session which was expected to last about least three hours.

Earlier this morning, a number of people turned up at the Democrat Party headquarters to give Mr Abhisit and Mr Suthep flowers and offer them moral support.
