Banharn: Chumpol out of danger

Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silapa-archa is now out of danger after undergoing angioplasty following his collapse this morning, his brother, Chartthaipattana chief adviser Banharn Silpa-archa, said on Monday afternoon.

Mr Chumpol was rushed to Mission Hospital this morning after developing breathing difficulty and passing out.  He was later transferred to Ramathibodi Hospital.

Mr Banharn said the doctors decided to use dillation balloons to open constricted arteries around his heart.

His younger brother had suffered similar symptoms three years ago, he said.

Mr Banharn said Mr Chumpol was expected to fully recover within a month. The operation would not affect his routine work, Mr Banharn said.

Mr Banharn said after Mr Chumpol recovers fully he would advise him to undergo bypass surgery.
