The government plans to set up a medical unit at Government House after Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silapa-archa collapsed on Monday and was rushed to a nearby by hospital for emergency treatment.
Responding to reporters' questions about the lack of doctors or nurses on standby in case of emergency, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said she would consult appropriate officials about where in the compound it should be set up.
Pol Maj-Gen Thawat Boonfueng, the prime minister's deputy secretary-general, said about two months ago he and his staff had reported on the fact Government House does not have a medical unit even though many important people, including cabinet ministers and high-level officials, work there.
Former social development and human security minister Paiboon Wattanasiritham had also collapsed in the cabinet meeting room in the past, he said.
"It is a matter of carelessness that Government House does not have this important facility. Apart from a medical unit, I think we should also have a library and a fitness centre at Government House," he said.
Pol Maj-Gen Thawat said a suitable location was being scouted for the new medical unit.
