Nov car exports exceed 100,000 units

Monthly vehicle exports exceeded 100,000 for the first time in November, Surapong Paisitpatanapong, spokesman of the Automotive Industry Club, said on Thursday.

He said a total of 100,225 vehicles were exported in November. This was an increase of 1.97% on October. The total value was 46.58 billion baht, said Mr Surapong.

Car exports over the first 11 months of the year (Jan-Nov) were also up from the same period last year by 34.2%, to 940,374 units, with a total value of 449.36 billion baht, up 37.7%, he said.

Car output in November stood at 256,581 units, the highest since car production started in Thailand, a substantial increase of 982.85% on last November, when the country was hit by the great flood, and up 1.75% on October, he added.

Car production output over the first 11 months of the year totalled 2,232,364 units, up 64.34% from the same period last year, according to the spokesman.

Domestic car sales for November were up 467.92% over last November to stand at 148,052 units, and an increase of 3.65% on October. Domestic sales over the first 11 months totaled 1,291,468 vehicles, up from the same period last year by 74.54%, he said.

“Car output, exports and domestic sales in November hit record high in the past 51 years. It is the first ever that car exports exceed 100,000 units,” Mr Surapong said.

The spokesman projected car output for December at 214,988 units, an increase of 116.23% when compared to the real output of 99,426 units reported last December.
