Bangkok to get first dog park

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will next year open the city's first public dog park, in Vacharapol area of Ram Intra district.

Bangkok deputy governor Vallop Suwandee said City Hall had already discussed the matter with several agencies including the Thailand Rescue Dog Association, Kasetsart University, and the BMA's Department of Environment and Department of Health.

It was agreed that the BMA will allocate 4.6 rai of land for use as the dog park, which will have facilities such as veterinary consultation, exercise areas for small and large dogs, running tracks and watering areas.

However, the city will set strict conditions for park users - such as dogs must be trained to obey commands and they must be on a lead. Owners must also have equipment to collect the dogs' poo. Sick dogs or dogs with skin diseases will be banned from the park.

The BMA will commission a contractor to develop the project early next year and expects to open the park before the end of 2013.
