Fire in Toyota factory warehouse

A large fire in warehouses at the rear of a Toyota assembly plant in Ban Pho district of Chachoengsao province Sunday night will not affect production, provincial governor Rerngsak Mahawinijchaimontri said.

The blaze began in a building situated at the back of the plant around 7pm and destroyed a warehouse storing approximately 30,000 litres of engine oil. Parts of the building collapsed oin the flames, which took firefighters around 3 hours to control.

The fire flared up again at the same spot about 1am Monday, and firefighters battled for another two hours to put it out.

The Chachoengsao governor held a press conference about midnight, Mr Rerngsak said the fire started in the front area of the second gate of Toyota Parts Centre Asia Pacific. It did not spread to the warehouse where vehicle parts are stored. Damage was estimated at 10-15 million baht, he said.

The fire was at the back of the factory, about 800m away from the assembly plant, so there wouldbeno affect  on production, he said.

Reporters at the scene said large numbers of fire trucks arrived to help battle the blaze, but many of them were not be allowed to enter the factory grounds to help fight the fire. The trucks had to find their way along the outside of the company's 1,600-rai compound and wait outside the fire area.
