TrueMove H collaborates with WBA and Cisco for Asia’s first public trial of Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0).
TrueMove H, Thailand’s leading and most complete mobile service provider, offering both WiFi and 3G technologies, today announced a collaborative effort with the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) and Cisco towards the first public trial of Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) in Asia. Initiated by the WBA, the innovative Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) technology allows seamless connectivity between WiFi and 3G via the SIM card. Users in Thailand can experience the public trial of Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) exclusively at True Shop Central Rama 9 branch and True Shop Central Ladprao branch from now until 29 February2012.
Supoj Mahapan, the director of international services business for True Corporation Plc., said “Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) is a collaborative effort among members of the WBA, leading mobile network operators, network solution companies, and device manufacturers. It is designed to offer seamless and highly-secure accessibility between WiFi and 3G, enabling consumers to stay connected all the time with greater convenience and coverage. This industry initiative is currently being tested in Thailand, the Philippines and Hong Kong and the lab test results will be presented at the GSMA World Congress by the end of February 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.
“As a WBA board member, and as Thailand’s leader in both WiFi and 3G technology, as well as being the only Thai mobile operator to participate in the Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) project, TrueMove H is very proud to play an important part in spearheading this innovative technology. Moreover, the project is in line with True Group’s convergence strategy to bring more convenience to consumers by empowering them with more freedom through seamless and highly-secure mobile wireless broadband connectivity.”
Dr. Tatchapol Poshyanonda, the managing director of Cisco in Thailand, said “Smartphones are changing the paradigm of mobile broadband where WiFi is a critical part of the connectivity experience. According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index 2011, there will be over 7.1 billion mobile-connected devices in 2015 – approximately equal to the world's population in 2015 (7.2 billion). We are proud to collaborate with industry partners like the Wireless Broadband Alliance and TrueMove H in the trials of Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) wireless access in Thailand.”
Non Ingkutanon, the general manager of broadband services for True Corporation Plc., said “The key benefits of Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) are greater convenience and superior security, delivering a new experience of wireless broadband connectivity to users through a SIM card and a supporting handset. Enabled devices can automatically select the WiFi hotspot network from anywhere in the world without remembering the Service Set IDentifier (SSID). In addition with this breakthrough technology, the SIM card will be recognised allowing automatic log-in without the use of user names and passwords. Moreover, data encryption meets the highest safety standards. WPA2-Enterprise (WiFi Protected Access 2), a unique feature in private enterprise networks is deployed in the public hotspot network to minimise gaps and reduce external attacks, such as an SSID that is rendered with the same name, data hacking and external system intrusion. TrueMove H is inviting the public to experience the innovative Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) technology, which is currently undergoing public trials at True Shop Central Rama 9 branch and True Shop Central Ladprao branch from now until 29 February 2012.”
At the industry level, the innovative Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) technology will also help operators to better manage network offload delivering optimum user experiences. Next Generation Hotspot (Hotspot 2.0) technology trials provide a great opportunity for True to make a giant leap with an active role in the international development of the wireless broadband industry.
