B100m damage to Rayong factory

A blaze at a medical equipment manufacturing facility in the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in Pluak Daeng district of Rayong province has caused damage of B100 million.

The fire on Monday afternoon completely destroyed the factory operated by B Braun Medical. More than 10 fire engines were dispatched to the scene to try to contain the fire. There were no reports of any injury as all workers were able to safely evacuate the building.

Pol Col Sithi Sangchan, deputy superintendent of Pluak Daeng police station, believes the fire was caused by sparks from an electrical short-circuit that set alight inflammable materials.

The Public Health Ministry believes two chemicals - hydrocarbon in plastic pellets and carbon monoxide - contributed to the smoke which poured out of the factory.

The ministry said in a statement that anyone who came into contact with the smoke should immediately wash themselves in clean water. If they are having breathing problems they should seek treatment from a doctor.
