Crazed man slashes 100 rubber trees

NONG KHAI - A man slashed more than 100 rubber trees in a village in Nong Khai province, causing a disturbance to villagers in the area, police said.

Police arrested Boontom Srimuang, 40, as he hacked away at the rubber trees belonging to 63-year-old villager Samarn Muangsui, 63.

Umnuay Tinbood, 50, another villager, said she had to close her shop because of Mr Boontam. She claimed that the man stole food and violated her privacy.

Police said the suspect had a history of drug addiction three years ago. His relatives sent him to a drug rehabilitation programme after he tried to attack his wife.

Police believed he went crazy because he had ran out of medication. They said the drugs for Mr Boontam's condition were currently out of stock at Nong Khai hospital.
