BANGKOK – Police arrested 72 prostitutes in areas of Bangkok on Tuesday night as part of a crackdown on illegal activities during the New Year holiday, reports said.
Police raided Sanam Luang, Khao San road, Klong Lod, Wong Wien Yai and Rama 2 road and arrested a total of 72 sex workers.
Three men, fifty three women and sixteen transvestites were taken into police custody and each paid a fine of 1,000 baht.
Police have recorded their details and if found repeating the offence, they would be subjected to harsher punishment, a police spokesman said.
