Bus rules enforcers on NY roads

NAKHON RATCHASIMA -- The Department of Transport in Nakhon Ratchasima province has set up three squads to enforce speed limits and other regulations on the large number of bus trips scheduled during the New Year celebrations.

The province is the gateway to the Northeast, and large crowds are expected to catch buses there to continue their journey to their hometowns.

Sira Boonthamkul, director of the provincial office of the Department of Transport, said a maximum speed of 110  kph will be enforced for bus drivers, and they will be restricted from driving in the outside lane, a report said.

The Department of Transport has inspected its speed monitor cameras and would set them up along the Mittraphap Highway.

He said the department has doubled the number of bus services, from 200 trips daily to 400 trips, for the long holiday.

The department will also have 50-80 buses on standby if passenger numbers exceed expectations. Mr Sira  said no  passengers will left behind each day, because the department will provide a 24-hour service.
