Hunt for Russian tourists' attackers

CHON BURI - Police are hunting suspects in the abduction and rape of two women Russian tourists in Pattaya.

Chon Buri police on Thursday called a meeting to discuss progress in the investigation.

The two Russian women were abducted, robbed and sexually assaulted while returning to their hotel early on Tuesday, after celebrating Christmas Eve with friends.

No details of the investigation were released. However, It is reported that police have evidence which could lead to some suspects.

Kitti Boonchu, 25, was called in for questioning. His pickup truck, allegedly used in the crime, was also combed for evidence.

Another three young men were also brought in for a police lineup. Reportedly, the victims could not remember their attackers. The forensic team collected DNA samples from the men to help aid the investigation.

Both victims were reported to still be a state of shock and under protection. Their story has been given huge attention in the Russian media.

One of them is a 32-year old doctor from Moscow and the other is a 32 employee of a well-known firm in Russia. Both of them are scheduled to leave Thailand for Russia shortly after New Year.
