Cop 'under stress' kills himself

CHON BURI - A police inspector committed suicide in a police station on Monday, and his colleagues say he was likely stressed out from work over the New Year festival.

Pol Capt Nitipat Nampol, 57, died from a gunshot wound to the head in a parcel storage room.

A colleague said he heard the shot and rushed into the room, where he found Pol Capt Nitipat lying on the floor in a pool of blood, along with a pistol.

He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead.

Pol Maj Gen Katcha Tanusat, Chon Buri police chief, said Pol Capt Nitipat was recently transferred and was not proficient in his position.

The man was probably stressed because he was on traffic duty for seven days straight and had to handle a large number of people during the New Year, said Pol Maj Gen Katcha.
