Police said Niratcharak Thongklung, 29, held a knife to her daughter's throat and threatened to attack anyone who came close.

Five officers climbed up to the roof to negotiate with Mrs Niratcharak. The policemen then attempted to lure the woman closer by asking her to pick up a fake phone call to her husband but it idn't work.

An officer gave a container of milk to Mrs Niratcharak because her baby was hungry and crying. The others used the distraction to grab the woman and rescue the baby.

Police said the women had drunk a lot of alcohol after she had an argument with her "cheating" husband, the owner of a video game centre, late Sunday night. She climbed up the roof of the building above the games shop and held her daughter hostage.

The mother and her daughter were sent to a hospital. The nine-month-old was unharmed but traumatised by the commotion. Her mother was receiving psychological treatment.

It took police 45 minutes to rescue the child. One officer received a minor injury.
