Phuket bank robber grabs B260,000

A man wearing a motorcycle helmet and waving a gun robbed a Kasikorn Bank branch near Tesco Lotus Chaofa branch in central Phuket on Monday and made off with about 260,000 baht.

Footage from a surveillance camera at the bank showed an unidentified man in his 20s entering the bank at 12.30pm and threatening a female employee with what appeared to be .38 pistol and ordered her to put money in a brown paper bag. He wore a half helmet, long-sleeved jacket and jeans.

He then ran out of the bank and fled on a Yamaha Fino motorbike, heading to East Vichit Road, police said.

Police are questioning witnesses and examining footage at the bank and at intersections thought to be along the robber’s escape route.

The Kasikorn Bank’s Chaofa branch has no security guard. It was the second hold up at the bank branch. On Jan 29 last year a robber fled with more than 600,000 baht. He was arrested in November.
