Crazy Colours for nails

Instead of beautifying 20 nails in a monotone, why not paint them in different colours?

The gigantic shop-able nail polish bottle will open at the newlyrenovated Siam Center this Friday.

And you can really go crazy with colours when stepping into the gigantic shop-able nail polish bottle that houses Models Own nail products.

This Friday, the British beauty brand will open its first funky Bottle Shop in Thailand at the newly renovated Siam Center. The Bangkok kiosk is among the first 10 Bottle Shops in the world after Models Own introduced this innovative retail concept at Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherds Bush, London, in April last year.

Jaspal executive Suvita Chansrichavala.

"I had so much fun trying out the large selection of nail polishes and wanted to take home all the colours," said Suvita Chansrichavala of her visit to the iconic kiosk in London last year. Falling in love with the brand and the Bottle Shop, she decided to bring it to Thailand, as a business diversification of fashion retailer Jaspal, which celebrated its four decades last year.

"Under the concept We Love Colours, Models Own is a fun brand that offers fashion-forward nail polishes. And they come up with new shades every two months," she said. "For eyeshadows and lipsticks, you may have a certain number of shades but with nail polishes, you never know, you can have up to 100."

With over 100 shades, the comprehensive range of nail polish features different finishes including creamy, pearly, glittery and neon to create glamorous fingers.

Launched in 2007, Models Own has been innovative in colours and textures as well as new concepts in doing nails.

The brand was founded by Mark and Steven Rodol, whose father ran a notable cosmetic company. The Rodol brothers realised their strength in developing nail products and focused on expanding this line while make-up and accessories account for 30% of the business.

The name of the brand comes from a credit on a fashion spread that signifies clothing or accessories are models own not from a fashion house. Initially retailing at drug stores, Models Own wanted to stand out from the crowd by creating a fun shopping experience in the large-scale bottle tipped over on its side with fibre glass fuschia nail polish pouring out from it.

"The Bottle Shop makes it even more fun to shop for nail polish", said Suvita. "The design of the kiosk comes with an appealing display, and any girl who sees the array of colours can't help but buy, I would say, at least six bottles. We also offer a nail service bar for customers to do their nails after purchasing."

A bottle of Models Own nail polish generally costs 350 baht and box sets provide smaller bottles with different shades.

Best-selling collections include Mirrorball with big glitter bits for a frosting finish, Beetlejuice with four pearlescent colours mixed into one gleaming shade and Champagne with glitter flakes for a foil finish. In addition, nail stickers and nail art pens allow you to give nails a quick and neat makeover.

"Nail fashion has changed and it's no longer about using one colour, and people don't care about matching fingers and toes any more," she said. "Models Own nail polishes can even be mixed to create a new colour, and people have done that and shared interesting results on the internet. Today doing your nails is an essential part of dressing up, and you can change the colour of your nails just like changing your clothes every day."

The colourful display may tempt you to buy lots of bottles.
