With both in-home and cinema 3D becoming a rapidly growing field of technology the International 3D Society honors companies that, according to Jim Mainard, Chairman of the Society's 3D Technology Awards Committee and Head of Digital Strategy at DreamWorks Animation, have " [...] demonstrated impact on the 3D professional or consumer."

The International 3D Society, which is composed of representatives from 60 companies, including DreamWorks Animation, Sony Pictures Entertainment and ESPN, announced the honorees of this year's "Technology Award Winners" on January 7. The International 3D Society will then present a seminar on 3D technology at CES, one of the year's biggest technology shows, on January 8.

This year's honorees are as follows:

Samsung Electronics
At last year's CES the company revealed a 55 inch super OLED 3D TV and around half of Samsung's Smart TV line in 2012 were 3D capable.

3ality Technica
Primarily industry-focused, 3ality Technica's rigs, such as the Helix, have been used on numerous big-budget 3D movie shoots including "The Hobbit" and "Prometheus".

The company produced a 3D visor back in 2008 and since then has had numerous forays into 3D TV and has attracted support from companies such as LG.

Infinite Z works with 3D holographic imagery to, among other things, aid engineers.

21st Century 3D

21st Century 3D provides production services and equipment to the 3D movie industry.

Speaking with regards to this year's awards, International 3D Society president Jim Chabin stated in a press release "3D movies again scored 5 of the top 10 highest grossing hits of this past year, including: ‘The Hobbit,' ‘The Avengers,' ‘The Amazing Spiderman,' ‘Brave,' and ‘Madagascar.' 3D Blu-rays are being seen by millions of consumers on their new 3D flat screens. The companies receiving our LumiereTM statuettes have helped to create much of this magic for fans in theatres and at home."

3D technology is once again expected to be a big trend at this year's CES with LG delivering an ultra-high definition CINEMA 3D Smart TV, Steam TV Ultra6D 2160p and Sharp Electronics' 90LE745 TV.
