TRANG - Gunmen opened fire on the residence of the Trang prison warden on Tuesday morning, and police suspect the attack stems from the recent drug crackdown inside the prison.
There were no injuries reported in the attack on the two-storey house of Prawat Sammanee, the warden, in tambon Khok Lo of Muang district.
The police investigators called to the scene found 12 bullet holes in the building, and 12 spent bullet casings from an old-model automatic weapon in the street about 20 metres from the fence.
Mr Prawat told police that he and his family were sleeping on the second-floor and were awoken by the sounds of gunfire. He immediately notified the authorities and summoned security guards.
Based on the damage, police investigators concluded the gunmen merely intended to intimidate Mr Prawat, who recently launched a clampdown on illegal drugs inside the prison.
