Bangkok-based Japanese ceramicist Kasumi Katagiri will showcase her new works of big plates decorated with fine paintings of flowers during the "Positive Grace 2013" exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

Positive Grace2013 will be on display at the People’s Gallery, 2nd floor of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre from Jan18toFeb26.The opening reception is on Jan 18 at 6pm. The art centre is located at Pathumwan intersection and is open daily except Mondays from11amto 9pm. Call 02-258-6663.

The works were inspired by the strong vitality she has sensed in flowers as seen in Thailand. "I feel inspired by their grace. It has long been my hope to express this feeling in my works," said Kasumi.

She made her wish come true with her previous exhibition "Positive Grace" in 2010 by using a unique technique that decorates ceramics with glazes. Afterwards this became her theme.

Many of her ceramic works also feature Lai Thai, traditional Thai patterns which she found very beautiful yet difficult to draw and paint with glaze at first. "But after repeated trial and error, I was finally able to find my own technique of applying glaze for Lai Thai design. So I decided to incorporate this into my Positive Grace 2013 exhibition."
