Marks and Spencer continues its expansion in China with the launch of a new Chinese-language website.
The brand entered the Chinese market in 2008, rolling out 14 stores across the country. In November and December 2012 the British retail giant opened new locations in Wenzhou, Jiangyin and Changzhou. Chinese customers will now be able to purchase a selection of men's, women's and children's clothes alongside a range of footwear, hosiery and the brand's famous lingerie.
The company now has a dedicated e-tail platform on Tmall.com that is operated by Chinese internet giant Alibaba. According to WWD, Tmall boasted sales of more than 200 billion yuan ($32.1 billion) in 2012 and has recently inked deals with The North Face, GStar and Ralph Lauren Footwear to sell their brands on the shopping platform.
M&S has also launched country-specific sites for France, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Austria and Belgium. Established in Leeds, UK in 1884, M&S has 1,010 stores worldwide.
